For some time, healthcare practitioners have come to Bambi Ingram, sustainability manager for UAB, with questions and ideas about implementing sustainable practices in their units in UAB Medicine. Practice Greenhealth is an organization dedicated to helping its more than 1,500 member hospitals and health systems increase efficiencies and their environmental stewardship while improving patient safety and care through tools, best practices and knowledge.

University of Pittsburgh Pitt Pantry lockers won a national food waste reduction award

Pitt is the Food Waste Reduction winner in the National Wildlife Federation 2024 Campus Race to Zero Waste Case Study Competition. The University was recognized for its Pitt Pantry lockers, an innovative approach to minimizing food waste and addressing food insecurity on campus.

'Flipping the switch' on the Sharon and Graham Mitchell Sustainability Park at Miami University

A $5 million gift from Sharon Janosik Mitchell ’73 and Graham Mitchell ’73, M.En. ’76 will help Miami reach its 2040 carbon neutrality goal. Miami University President Gregory Crawford announced the creation of the Sharon and Graham Mitchell Sustainability Park during a public celebration Sept. 24 to “Flip the Switch for Sustainability.” The park will encompass two ground mount solar panel installations in partnership with Melink Solar, which are expected to produce 2,260 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity annually. One will located over Miami's Western Geothermal Field , harnessing the power of the sun and the earth for sustainable energy. Admins can make updates.

UAB Sustainability wins national recognition and support for saving energy and money

Initiatives championed by UAB Sustainability have led to national recognition this spring from the Department of Energy and pro-bono consulting services to help expand sustainability work on campus.

Georgetown U Introduces Social Justice Core Requirement

Going into effect with the beginning of the fall 2024 semester, all undergraduates will take three courses: a mandatory one-credit seminar–Race, Power, and Justice at Georgetown–and two additional courses that draw upon themes such as marginalization, inequity and identity.

Endicott College Publishes Sustainability Plan

Thompson Rivers U to Begin Low-Carbon District Energy Installation

The university recently broke ground on a low-carbon district energy system that is projected to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 95 percent. Replacing the university’s natural gas boilers, the high-efficiency electrified district heating system will feature air-source and water-source heat pumps, along with backup and peaking boilers.

Flinders U Earns STARS V3.0 Gold

Catawba College Gift Enables $66M Endowment for Sustainability

The college received recently a $200 million anonymous gift to its endowment. Two-thirds of the annual distributions from the gift will provide unrestricted funding for the college while the remaining third will be directed to programs that support environmental education and sustainability.
