Climate Emotions Study
The purpose of the research study is to explore what training and support educators, faculty and students need around climate emotions while teaching or researching climate change topics. Participants will join a 90-minute online focus group and will receive $150 for participating in the study. This research is being conducted through Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder.
WOHESC 2025 Call for Proposals
Organizers for the Washington Oregon Cascadia Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC) invite proposals for program content, sessions and speakers. Happening March 5-7, 2025, the event will focus on creating enduring communities in higher education that are environmentally conscious and socially responsible. The deadline to submit a proposal is Oct. 18.
2025 Green Chemistry Challenge Award
The Green Chemistry Challenge Awards promote the environmental and economic benefits of developing and using novel, sustainable chemistry by recognizing chemical technologies that incorporate the principles of sustainable chemistry into chemical design, manufacture and use. The U.S. EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention sponsors the program in partnership with the American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Institute. The application deadline is Dec. 13.
Seeking Input on IRA Community of Practice Topics and Resources
In an effort to meet higher education institutions' needs related to the climate provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), Second Nature seeks feedback about potential topics, resources, educational materials, etc., for a community of practice, which will be developed in partnership with other organizations (e.g., Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), American Council on Education (ACE), and Boston Green Ribbon Commission).
Second Nature Catalyst Grant Opportunity
Up to $7,500 will be awarded to support a wide range of climate action initiatives at Climate Leadership Network member institutions. Grant recipients will receive unrestricted funds, follow a simple reporting process, and have numerous opportunities to have their projects showcased by Second Nature's communications team. Applications are due Sept. 6.
2024 Global Sustainability Challenge
The Council On International Educational Exchange seeks proposals collaboratively designed by researchers, faculty and/or staff from at least two different universities outlining a comprehensive portfolio of immersive study abroad experiences that foster a deep understanding of climate change and its impacts on various ecosystems and communities. Finalists win a trip to Rome for a live pitch event. Grand prize winners share $250,000 in student scholarships. The deadline to submit a proposal is Sept. 20.
Youth Petition for Climate Change Education
The petition urges governments across the world to mobilize the potential of climate change education. Emphasizing the need for climate change education to be more comprehensive, holistic and effective, the petition calls on governments to embed climate change education in all subjects and at all levels of education, improve the quality of climate education, include education when developing climate solutions, monitor green content in school curricula, and meaningfully engage with youth in designing and delivering climate education. This petition is being led by the Global Education Monitoring Report in partnership with the MECCE Project, Take Global Action, and Earth Guardians.

The Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award given by Campus Compact recognizes one senior faculty member each year for their commitment to connecting their teaching, research and service to community engagement. Nominations are due by Oct. 31.

Wege Prize 2025
Wege Prize, organized by Kendall College of Art and Design at Ferris State University, is an annual competition that challenges college and university students around the world to collaborate across institutional, disciplinary and cultural boundaries to redesign the way economies work. Climate and Health Interdisciplinary Awards
Focused on the relationships between climate change and human health, the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Climate and Health Interdisciplinary Award is intended to stimulate development of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches to problems with interconnected, and potentially cumulative, impacts on human health in general and vulnerable populations specifically. Awards will be for a total of $375,000 to be distributed over three years. Approximately three awards will be made. The deadline to submit is Aug. 29.
Food, Energy & Water Nexus Faculty Mentoring Network
Beginning in September 2024, participants in the mentoring network will integrate the Four-Dimensional Ecology Education Framework into undergraduate curricula focused on food, water and energy concepts. Network participants will develop educational products to help students understand the relevant ecological terminology and concepts and grasp ecological problem-solving and decision-making approaches for addressing the complex interactions and dependencies between these essential resources. Participants are eligible to receive a $1,000 stipend.
Environmental Changemaker: A Certificate Training
Offered through Change the Chamber, the training modules feature strategies and skills for engaging in practical actions to address climate change and other sustainability-related challenges. The module topics include systems change, storytelling, coalition building, allyship, interpersonal relations, coping tactics and more.
