2022 AASHE Sustainable Campus Index Lists Top Performers

The Sustainable Campus Index (SCI) recognizes top-performing colleges and universities in 17 sustainability impact areas, and overall by institution type, as measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS). This year’s SCI introduces an international top performers list that recognizes the highest scoring institution in every participating country with at least one STARS-rated institution.

The new plan outlines goals for the university, including creating more sustainability-related courses and research opportunities; prioritizing conservation and innovation for water, energy, and construction efforts; providing sustainable transportation incentives; and nurturing more leadership roles for students through campus and community partnerships.

13 U Health Systems Commit to Reduce GHG Emissions

Over 650 hospitals, 13 of which are university hospital systems, committed to the Biden-Harris Administration Health Sector Climate Pledge, which is a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 50 percent by 2030. The signatories also pledge to strengthen resilience to climate change, protect public health and lower costs.

Stanford U Renews STARS Platinum Rating

Points of distinction in Stanford University's recently published STARS Platinum report include its new School of Sustainability, which merges several existing schools and departments and is anticipated to hire 60 new faculty over the next 10 years; its zero waste by 2030 initiative; and the One Plate, One Planet dining program, which seeks to support climate-smart dining, racial equity, and thriving oceans while curbing deforestation and catalyzing a circular economy within the food system
