Points of distinction in the University of California, Merced's recently published STARS report, earning the institution its inaugural STARS Platinum rating, include achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions for scopes 1 and 2, and the completion of 11 campus facilities, each of which was certified to LEED Platinum standards.

Bowdoin College Releases Decarbonization Plan

The college's recently released clean-energy plan calls for investing a minimum of $100 million in campus infrastructure between now and 2037 with the goal of utilizing carbon-free clean energy by 2042. U Massachusetts Amherst Announces 100% Renewable Power By 2032 Goal

The university on Earth Day unveiled UMass Carbon Zero–a vision to power the university's 1,500-acre flagship campus with 100 percent renewable energy by approximately 2032. Among other changes, the university plans to transition from fossil fuel-based steam and electricity production to a low-temperature hot water heating system paired with ground-source heating and cooling, and to use a combination of onsite battery-stored solar energy and purchased clean energy.
