Resilient Communities: Libraries Respond to Climate Change

The American Library Association (ALA) invites library workers to apply to be part of Resilient Communities: Libraries Respond to Climate Change, a pilot program to help public and academic libraries engage their communities in programs and conversations that address the climate change crisis. The project will fund in-person and virtual film screenings, community dialogues and related events based on local interest in 25 public and academic libraries, and it will provide instruction and support for the libraries to be centers for community education and support during extreme weather events. The deadline to apply is Aug. 28.

Civic Innovation Challenge

The Civic Innovation Challenge is a national research and action competition where teams will compete for awards of up to $1 million on ready-to-implement, research-based pilot projects that have the potential for scalable, sustainable and transferable impact on community-identified priorities. The Civic Innovation Challenge comprises two tracks–communities and mobility, and resilience to natural disasters. Planning grant applications are due on July 1. Soliciting Feedback on Recommendations for Improving Commuting Data Collection

Second Nature and the University of New Hampshire Sustainability Institute have co-facilitated a working group of sustainability professionals representing ten different higher education institutions. The purpose of the group is to improve data collection and reporting related to commuting impacts in higher education, identify opportunities for standardization across inventory tools (SIMAP) and reporting platforms (e.g., Second Nature, AASHE STARS), and to ultimately improve the comparability and accuracy of greenhouse gas inventories. The working group has produced recommendations and tools and is seeking feedback.
