Racialized Students Caucus, Digital Storytelling Workshop
The three-day workshop, offered by Meal Exchange, taking place on Nov. 22-24 at the University of Guelph, aims to bring together racialized students with lived experience of food insecurity to build skills in video making and gain knowledge of artistic methods for community dialogue, policy action, and challenging dominant narratives. All costs of the workshop (registration, travel, accommodations and food) will be covered. Students from all campuses across Canada are welcome to apply to attend.
Campus Farmer Summit Request for Proposals
The Martin Institute at Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts, will host the New England Campus Farmer Summit on Feb. 22, 2020. The summit program will focus on the theme of nourishment. Organizers are accepting proposals from campus farmers, students and representatives. Proposals are due Oct. 25.
Global Climate Change Week
Global Climate Change Week, scheduled for Oct. 14-20, aims to encourage academic communities to engage with each other, their communities and policy-makers on climate change action and solutions. During the Global Climate Change Week, teaching staff coordinate their teaching to be on an aspect of climate change. They also organize various other activities focused on awareness, behavior change and political transformation in relation to climate policy.
AASHE 2019 Workshop: Lots of Watts: Building an Energy Cohort to Buy Big Renewables
During this pre-conference, half-day workshop, participants will examine large-scale renewable energy aggregation at MIT, Lehigh University and Swarthmore College. Attendees will learn best practices for pursuing aggregated renewable energy power purchase agreements by understanding the economic, risk-management, reputational and academic benefits. Participants will work in small groups to conduct exercises that will help prepare them for a renewable energy buyers cohort.

2019 GameDay Recycling Challenge
Presented through a partnership with the National Wildlife Federation, RecycleMania Inc., the College & University Recycling Coalition, and EPA’s WasteWise program, the GameDay Challenge seeks to reduce trash generated inside and outside stadiums during home football games. During the competition, participating schools track and report how much recyclable and organic materials they collect, donate, reduce and recycle.
An Interactive Summit: BE.Hive on Campus: Climate Change Needs Behavior Change
Rare and Dickinson College are hosting BE.Hive on Campus: Climate Change Needs Behavior Change to explore how campus communities can be at the forefront of promoting sustainable behaviors and curbing the climate crisis. Held at Dickinson College on Oct. 5, participants will learn about the latest academic insights from behavior science, hear from leading environmentalists, artists, storytellers and explorers, and identify some of the greatest opportunities for shifting human behavior to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
SDGs Design International Awards 2019
These awards invite students from all over the world to use their design skills to create new, bold and innovative solutions. Designs can be submitted for SDG 13 (designs to counter damage caused by natural disasters), SDG 14 (designs to protect the ocean's abundance and beauty), or SDG 10 (designs for human coexistence beyond nationality, ethnicity, or age). Any genre of design is accepted, with students from any university, vocational school or graduate school eligible to apply. The grand prize to be awarded is $2,800 (300,000 Japanese yen). The initial review period closes on Oct. 31.
Green Launchpad Educators Workshop
This interactive workshop presented by VentureWell is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to integrate sustainable invention and innovation curriculum and practices into courses, whether they are existing core courses or sustainability-specific ones. Washington Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC) Call for Proposals
Higher education sustainability stakeholders in Washington State and Oregon are encouraged to submit proposals to the Washington Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC), happening March 2-3, 2020, at the University of Oregon. The conference theme is Root Causes and Positive Actions, focusing on root causes to
sustainability challenges and positive actions to address them while simultaneously intersecting with diversity, equity and inclusion. The deadline to submit a proposal is Oct. 11.
AASHE 2019 Workshop: Leading with Circular Economy Concepts, Business Cases and Tools
This pre-conference, half-day workshop will focus on the key leadership skills for sustainability administrators and directors who need to make effective cases for circular economy programs (like zero waste), deliver successful metrics, and have a thriving campus program on sustainability that is deemed essential and value added by all. Some topics covered will be the process mapping for circular economy concepts and triple bottom line; business case development; metrics development for useful KPIs; project and program management tools; and how to connect to AASHE STARS.
ACE Leadership Awards
The American Council on Education is accepting nominations for three ACE awards honoring individuals or programs that work to diversify the ranks of higher education leadership. Nominations will be accepted until Oct. 18.
The People's Ecochallenge
The People's Ecochallenge is a 21-day environmental and social engagement program presented by Northwest Earth Institute that challenges participants to connect the dots between their values and actions. From Oct. 2 - 23, individuals make a 21-day commitment to complete specified actions. For every completed action, participants earn points, which will, if they are part of a team, contribute to the team's total points. The challenge is free to join and everyone is welcome.
APPA Sustainability Innovation Award
APPA’s Sustainability Innovation Award in Facilities Management is designed to recognize and promote unique and innovative sustainable practices in the educational facilities and campus environments. It is awarded to educational institutions that have implemented a significant or transformative program and/or processes that enhance service delivery, lower costs, create a green and/or sustainable environment, or otherwise benefit the educational institution supporting student success and environmental stewardship. Applications are due Nov. 30.
2019 Campus Sustainability Month
Held every October, Campus Sustainability Month (CSM) is an international celebration of sustainability in higher education. The goal of CSM is to raise the visibility of campus sustainability and provide advocates with a platform through which to deepen campus engagement. Teach-ins, pledge drives, zero-energy concerts, waste audits and green sporting events are just a few ways campuses can engage and inspire the campus community to become sustainability change agents. Contribute to and follow the activity using #campussustainabilitymonth.
Sustainability Policy Updates
The Higher Education Associations Sustainability Consortium (HEASC) welcomes sustainability stakeholders to become Sustainability Policy Partners. Partners will receive state-level climate and environmental organizations policy alerts and civic engagement opportunities to share with their campus. HEASC will support partners through regular check-ins, email templates, and a connection with a network of other partners across the country.
Club Car Campus Sustainability Grant Program
Facilities and fleet decision-makers on campus can apply to receive a grant from the Club Car Campus Sustainability Grant Program. Applicants to the grant program are eligible to receive a custom Club Car Carryall vehicle, up to a value of $10,000, for pilot use on their institution’s campus. Three additional applicants will receive a complimentary fleet audit to evaluate the potential for their transportation fleet to better align with sustainability goals. The deadline to apply is Oct. 20.

Campus Care Grant
The Campus Care Grant awards up to $25,000 annually to programs or services that support student achievement by addressing a basic need of students on campus, such as housing, food, mobility, safety, academic resources and counseling. The grant application deadline is Aug. 31.
Cornell Climate Online Fellows
The Cornell Climate Online Fellows will work together over a 14-week period to identify, discuss, implement and assess greenhouse gas mitigation actions they take locally and within their social networks. Applications are due by Aug. 25.
Online Certificate on Education for Sustainable Development
Offered through the Earth Charter Center for Education for Sustainable Development at the University for Peace, this program is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to deepen understanding, knowledge and skills to integrate Education for Sustainable Development and Education for Global Citizenship into classrooms, schools and curricula. It contributes to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, with a specific focus on SDG 4, target SDG 4.7. Participants who successfully complete this online program will be invited to join the Earth Charter Educators Network.

AASHE 2019 Workshop: Using Endowment Investing to Help Create a Sustainable Economy
This pre-conference, half-day workshop will outline successes to date and how stakeholders can align endowment investments with institutional leadership across academics, operations and research. Guided by the Roadmap for Intentionally Designed Endowments, it will cover how to address the challenges higher education institutions face in building campus stakeholder consensus, aligning investment policies with mission, and implementing sustainable investing strategies across the endowment portfolio.
Call for Nominations: Students for Zero Waste Awards
The Post-Landfill Action Network invites nominations for student leaders deserving of recognition for their efforts. There are seven award categories from which to choose. Award nominations will be accepted until Sept. 2. Recipients will be announced at the close of the 2019 conference, happening Oct. 11-13, in Philadelphia.

Building off the pre-conference facilitation workshop, Facilitation for Organizational Change, in which participants are introduced to core facilitation strategies and have opportunities to practice multi-meeting stakeholder process, this post-conference, half-day workshop will delve deeply into specific facilitation skills needed for challenging, in-person decision-making meetings. This workshop provides participants essential tools to engage campus stakeholders in difficult conversations necessary for productive meetings, create clear outcomes, and avoid group-based decision paralysis.
AASHE 2019 Workshop: Crafting Communications Campaigns with Impact
This post-conference, half-day workshop will help attendees craft communications campaigns that use technology and research-based methods to reach and engage a variety of audiences. The workshop will review best practices and guidelines in communications, with hands-on practice in designing communications and messaging for social media, newsletters, websites/blogs, and signage; incorporating principles from psychology and behavioral science; and understanding communications impact through analytics. The workshop is at the intermediate level but will offer material for both the beginner and advanced participants as well.
Call for Applications: Indigenous Youth Delegation to COP25
This year, SustainUS will be sending sending its first-ever indigenous delegation to the 25th U.N. climate negotiations (COP25), happening in Santiago, Chile from Dec. 2-13. The delegation will be comprised of indigenous youth leaders who have first-hand knowledge and experience with the impacts that climate change is having on frontline communities. Nominations due Aug. 11, and applications are due Aug. 18.
Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Award
Through the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Award, the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) recognizes institutions that have demonstrated initiative or progress in sustainable procurement. Nominations are open to any institution with laboratory facilities that meet the criteria. The deadline to submit a nomination is Aug. 8.

Collegiate Recycling Programs Survey
Duke University's Sanitation and Recycling department is conducting a research survey to gather information on collegiate recycling programs. Questions will be focused on two topic areas: bagless recycling operations and the localized impact of recent recycling market fluctuations. The average response time is less than 20 minutes. All data will be aggregated and shared with respondents after the survey window is closed. The deadline for responses is Aug. 2.

The International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) offers students, faculty and staff from AASHE-member schools a $100 discount on the ISSP Sustainability Associate (ISSP-SA) credential exam. AASHE 2019 Workshop: A Key to Co-Creation: The Development & Utilization of a Social Justice Lens
This pre-conference, full-day, cross-disciplinary workshop is designed to take campus sustainability work to a deeper level via the use of a critical social justice lens to improve its efficacy, increase its reach and power, and ultimately align it more closely with 21st century climate realities. The session is grounded in social justice education and climate change theory (for a shared framework), and spends the bulk of its time in dialogue, application and integration of the content into participants' specific settings.
AASHE 2019 Workshop: Sulitest: Co-Creating the Next Set of Questions for the US
The Sulitest offers a set of online tools for raising awareness and improving understanding of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This post-conference, half-day workshop has two main objectives: present the Sulitest tool and its recent improvements so that academic and non-academic stakeholders who are not aware yet can start using it; and organize a creative session to work collectively on producing new questions to enrich the test with a 'hackathon' format.

Felipe Floresca 'High Road' Fellowship Program
The Felipe Floresca "High Road" Fellowship Program seeks to build the capacity of people of color and justice advocates to develop and implement clean energy and climate resilience programs that include and benefit low-income, communities of color. It does this through a 12-month (September 2019-August 2020) experiential learning program that implements sustainable energy, water and food projects. The program provides a $50,000 annual stipend plus benefits. Placements are available for projects in one of the following ECC Sites: Washington D.C.; Oakland; San Francisco; and Seattle.
Call for Online Research Volunteers
A geography PhD student at The University of Southern Mississippi studying sustainability in higher education and searching for research volunteers to help conduct web assessments of environmentally sustainable higher education institutions in the U.S. Formal training and research is entirely online. Participants will be acknowledged in a published dissertation. A prize of $150 will be given to the person who conducts the most web assessments by Aug. 23.
