AASHE Course: From Climate Anxiety to Action: Tools to Build a Radical Imagination
This six-part course series will provide a framework to understand the causes of climate anxiety and tools to turn that anxiety into action through cultivating radical imagination. Participants will learn to reframe climate action away from anxiety and toward community and learn tools that can be used at home, in the classroom, or in larger-scale organizing. This series begins on June 20 and meets virtually six times on the second Tuesday of the month (exception June) for two hours. The deadline to register is June 20.
Global Sustainability Across the Curriculum Program Development Support Group

Participants in the support group will engage in lively discussions with a cohort of peers from diverse schools to share strategies and ways to overcome challenges in building strong curriculum development programs. Survey of Climate Communication and Education Organizations
This survey seeks to understand the programming, practices and challenges of nonformal climate communication and education in the U.S. (i.e., programming that takes place outside of formal curriculum). The information gathered by the project will be compiled in a publicly available report and used to produce a web-based directory, which will be featured at COP28 and on the Monitoring and Evaluating Climate Communication and Education (MECCE) Project’s interactive data platform.
Bridging Differences in Higher Education Learning Community
This eight-month facilitated, virtual learning community runs from fall 2023 through spring 2024 and is open to any leader in higher education who wants to foster more constructive dialogue and understanding across group lines on U.S. college campuses, including lines of race, religious faith and politics. The opportunity is hosted by the University of California Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center and centered on its free online course, Bridging Differences. Applications are due by May 22.

AASHE Earth Day Photo Opportunity
In honor of Earth Day, AASHE invites image submissions depicting sustainability in action, such as planting a garden or a tree, organizing a community service event, or something else. Images submitted to the Campus Sustainability Hub by May 1 will be included in an Earth Day image gallery.

Compost Research College Scholarships
The Compost Research & Education Foundation invites college students to apply for scholarships to assist with compost research projects. The scholarship is available for undergraduate through doctorate students studying at a college or university in the United States. The scholarship is for $4,000, and also includes an invitation to present research findings at a U.S. Composting Council Annual Conference.
Call for Student Abstracts: HBCU Climate Change Conference
The Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, in collaboration with The Bullard Center at Texas Southern University, invites student abstracts by Sept. 1. The purpose of the conference is to bring together HBCU faculty and students, researchers, climate professionals and coastal community residents impacted by toxic facilities and severe weather events related to climate change in order to bridge the gap between theory and the experiential realities of climate change.

EPA Pollution Prevention Grants
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the availability of $16 million for two new grant opportunities for assistance to higher education institutions seeking to develop and adopt pollution prevention practices that advance environmental justice in underserved communities.

Introduction to STARS: Chart your Course and Complete your First STARS Journey
On May 4, from 2 - 5:00 p.m. Eastern, AASHE staff members Robin Frederick and Monika Urbanski will present an introduction to the STARS assessment framework with a focus on assisting participants in STARS goal-setting and creating a plan for report submission. Additionally, the workshop will offer best practices for becoming STARS rated and using content from the report to advance change. The deadline to register is noon Eastern on May 4.

Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program
The new Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program is a competition to select multiple grantmakers to reduce barriers to the U.S. grants application process and increase the efficiency of the awards process for environmental justice grants. The program is an initiative of the EPA’s Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights.
