The public comment period for the Transportation section of STARS 3.0 is open through Oct. 31. STARS staff particularly welcome feedback from transportation managers, STARS liaisons and other stakeholders with an interest in sustainable transportation in higher education.
Wege Prize 2022
Wege Prize is an annual competition challenging students to collaborate across institutional, disciplinary and cultural boundaries to redesign the way economies work. Participants contend for over $65,000 in total cash prizes. The Wege Prize is organized by Kendall College of Art and Design’s Wege Center for Sustainable Design with support from the Wege Foundation. The deadline to submit a team application is Nov. 1.
Call for Video Messages From Higher Education Students
Students Organizing for Sustainability International invites students at higher education institutions to submit video messages that provide a critical and solution-focused perspective on how climate education is and should be integrated into the curriculum. The five best videos will be compiled into a 4-5 minute video that will be played for ministers and delegates at U.N. Environment Program and the Times Higher Education Climate Impact Forum on Oct. 28, ahead of COP26.

Campus Race to Zero Waste
Campus Race to Zero Waste, formerly Recyclemania, is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities. Over an eight-week period each spring, colleges across the U.S. and Canada report the amount of recycling and trash collected each week and are ranked in various categories.

Campus Sustainability Month
Held every October, Campus Sustainability Month is an international celebration of sustainability in higher education. The goal of Campus Sustainability Month is to raise the visibility of campus sustainability and provide advocates with a platform through which to broaden campus sustainability engagement. AASHE offers tools, tips and ideas, including a promotional toolkit, to assist in engaging the campus community.
AASHE Workshop: Just Sustainability: Curious Conversations About Equity and Sustainability
Just Sustainability: Curious Conversations is a three-hour workshop on Nov. 11 that will examine how to better integrate equity and social justice into sustainability. Topics covered include building empowering relationships with communities, learning from marginalized folks in non-exploitative ways, and overcoming the cultural biases embedded within the conventions of higher education. The registration deadline is Nov. 11 at noon Eastern.
Social & Environmental Justice Student Recycling Scholarships
Students with a passion for social and environmental justice principles and an interest in the recycling industry are encouraged to apply for a 2021 Murray J. Fox Scholarship of $2,000. Approximately three scholarships will be awarded. Funds are provided to assist with education expenses, along with membership in the National Recycling Coalition, plus admission to the National Recycling Congress, happening virtually from Nov. 3-4. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 1.

Sign On Opportunity: Race to Zero for Universities & Colleges
The Race to Zero is a U.N.-backed global campaign rallying educational institutions and others to take immediate action to halve global emissions by 2030. All members are committed to the same overarching goal–reducing emissions across all scopes swiftly and fairly in line with the Paris Agreement, with transparent action plans and robust near-term targets. To date, over 700 universities and colleges have signed on.

Invitation for Student Sustainability Writers
The Sustainable Age is a student journal founded by students of the North Texas Regional Center of Expertise Network. The journal is seeking volunteer student writers to submit original articles centered on the 17 U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.

Survey of Sustainability in Education Abroad
Bound International, in partnership with Earth Deeds, invites education abroad coordinators and managers to participate in this survey. The survey is designed to provide insight into how the field of education abroad is evolving and how it can address climate change and other environmental and social crises. The deadline to complete the survey is Oct. 5.
Bicycle Friendly University Open Application Period
The Bicycle Friendly University program recognizes institutions of higher education for promoting and providing a more bikeable campus for students, staff and visitors. The program provides a roadmap and technical assistance. The deadline to apply for the designation is Oct. 1.

Second Nature and the Intentional Endowments Network invite proposals for the 2022 Higher Education Climate Leadership Summit, happening Feb. 6 - 8, 2022, at the University of Miami. The Climate Advocacy Certificate Program, offered through Citizens' Climate Lobby, is a 15-week program that teaches participants how to lobby members of Congress, write op-eds and letters-to-the-editor, obtain endorsements, do grassroots outreach and more. Anyone is welcome to join regardless of age or student status. No application or prerequisites are necessary. The program takes about two hours a week. The deadline to register is Aug. 31.
Upper Midwest Association for Campus Sustainability (UMACS) Conference
The 2021 Upper Midwest Association for Campus Sustainability (UMACS) Conference, happening Sept. 23 - 24, aims to bring attention to the recent health, social justice and environmental challenges facing campuses and communities. With a theme, Healthy Planet, Healthy People: Advancing Justice in Challenging Times, the conference will provide cutting-edge research and data from regional colleges and universities on sustainability policy and practice. Registration closes Sept. 21.

The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is an annual collegiate competition that challenges students to design and build high-performance, low-carbon buildings that mitigate climate change and improve human quality of life through greater affordability, resilience and energy efficiency.
Project Green Challenge 2021
Project Green Challenge calls students worldwide to take action on climate change, public health, sustainability, social justice and advocacy. From Oct. 1 - 30, registered participants will receive a uniquely themed challenge each day inviting them to complete actions and upload deliverables to acquire points. At the end of the 30 days, up to 16 Project Green Challenge finalists will be selected to join Turning Green for a four-day eco-summit from Nov. 18 – 22.

World Environmental Education Congress 2022: Call for Abstracts
Organizers of the World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC) welcome abstracts for the 11th annual world congress, happening March 14 - 18, 2022. The event brings together researchers, educators, students and others working at the international level in the field of environmental education for the purpose of promoting the latest in sustainability education. Research-oriented and practice-oriented abstracts should be submitted by Aug. 31.
US Department of Education Listening Sessions
The U.S. Department of Education is hosting a series of five listening sessions aimed at informing the agency's Climate Adaptation Plan and subsequent implementation, and exploring the connections between climate, the safe reopening of schools, and ongoing efforts to advance educational equity. Anyone may attend.
