Call for Pilot Institutions to Test Mobile Water Refill Stations
WaterStop Carts invites institutions to sign up to test a new version of its Wi-Fi-enabled, mobile water bottle refilling station that includes a 50-gallon reservoir and filters for taste and contaminants like lead. A financial stipend for the person who is responsible for oversight and maintenance of the cart will be provided and the cart will belong to the school once the pilot program has concluded. Schools will provide feedback to WaterStop Carts regarding the cart's ease of use, system effectiveness, ease of mobility and other technical aspects.
C2C Fellows Sustainability Leadership Training
Offered by Bard College’s Center for Environmental Policy, the upcoming C2C training from Dec. 2-4 will focus on key leadership skills: vision, courage, developing a network, telling your story and raising funds. C2C workshop trainings are for undergraduate students and recent graduates who want high-impact sustainability careers that can change the future, in policy, business and politics.
Wege Prize 2017 Student Design Competition
Wege Prize is an annual, transdisciplinary design competition challenging teams of five college or university students from around the world to develop a product, service or business/nonprofit organization that can help transition our current linear economic model to a circular economic model, a tightly-looped, restorative economic cycle in which resources can be re-adapted for use without limiting the desirability of products or the flow of revenue. Teams will contend for $30,000 in total cash prizes. The deadline for team registration is Nov. 30.

Sustainability Across the Curriculum Leadership Workshop
Emory University, in partnership with AASHE, is offering a Sustainability Across the Curriculum Leadership workshop from Jan. 5-6, 2017, in Atlanta, Georgia. Through an intensive two days of presentations, exercises, discussions, reflection and planning, participants will become familiar with the philosophy of change in higher education developed through the Ponderosa Project at Northern Arizona University and adapted at Emory University in the Piedmont Project. Participants will experience a range of workshop strategies, hear local experts, enjoy outdoor place-based activities and dialogue with faculty from around the country to adapt the Piedmont/Ponderosa model to their own campus. Applications are due by Oct. 28.

University Barriers to Innovation and Sustainability Survey
Researchers at Federal University of Santa Maria (Brazil), Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (Germany) and University of Passo Fundo (Brazil) invite responses to a survey for the second phase of a doctoral thesis in business administration, which aims to analyze the barriers that influence the development of innovation and sustainability at universities. Deadline to participate is Oct. 7.
AASHE Member Discount: Registration for 2017 Presidential Climate Leadership Summit
AASHE members that are not a part of the Climate Leadership Network can register to attend Second Nature's 2017 Presidential Climate Leadership Summit for $100 off registration. AASHE members who are in the Climate Leadership Network will receive a larger discount. The 2017 Presidential Climate Leadership Summit is happening from Feb. 13-15, 2017, in Tempe, Arizona. Registration fees increase on Oct. 6.

White House Educators Commitment on Resilient Design
The U.S. White House seeks to highlight the important role of schools in training and inspiring students who will lead the planning, design and development of future homes, buildings and infrastructure designed and built for resilience. The White House is inviting schools of engineering, architecture, urban planning, construction and other design disciplines to participate in this important effort by signing the Educators Commitment on Resilient Design by Oct. 3.
Invitation to Join the NSSE 2017 Sustainability Education Consortium
The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) Sustainability Education Consortium provides an opportunity to gather high-quality data on sustainability education in a way that will allows for comparison with other institutions. Participation in the Sustainability Education Consortium adds a series of questions about student engagement with sustainability education to the survey, which is administered by every year by hundreds of four-year colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada. The deadline to register for the consortium is Oct. 21.
GameDay Recycling Challenge 2016
Registration is open through Oct. 19 for the annual GameDay Challenge, a friendly competition for colleges and universities to promote waste reduction at home football games. The GameDay Recycling Challenge is administered by the College and University Recycling Coalition (CURC), RecycleMania, Keep America Beautiful and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise.

EPA Recognition for Commercial Buildings Survey
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s ENERGY STAR program is considering offering a new recognition based on improvement over time. All types of buildings would be eligible for earning this new recognition, whereas the existing recognition is based only on top performance. The EPA is seeking feedback by Sept. 30.

NREL No-Cost Solar Screenings and Implementation Assistance for Universities
In support of the U.S. Department of Energy's SunShot initiative, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is offering no-cost technical assistance to universities seeking to increase solar energy on campus. Any U.S. higher education institution is eligible to apply. The program is designed to increase the deployment of mid-scale solar photovoltaic systems at universities, engage stakeholders to develop deployment solutions and empower decision makers. Applications are due Oct. 15.

Northwest Earth Institute EcoChallenge
Hosted by the Northwest Earth Institute, this challenge asks participants to stick with one action to reduce their environmental impact for two weeks. Sign up as an individual, class or university team starting now. This year's EcoChallenge takes place October 14-28.

Campus Sustainability Month 2016
October is Campus Sustainability Month, during which time institutions around the world engage and inspire incoming students and other campus stakeholders to become leaders for sustainability. AASHE invites members to join the celebration by hosting events on their campuses. To help campuses get involved, AASHE has negotiated a discounted rate for members to screen one of four sustainability films offered through Bullfrog Films.
2017 Climate Leadership Awards
Offered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, The Climate Registry and the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, the Climate Leadership Awards is a national awards program that seeks to recognize the outstanding voluntary work that organizations and individuals pursue in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building resilience to climate change. The deadline to apply is Sept. 26.
SEED Center 2016 Green Genome Awards
The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) is offering cash prizes to five community colleges for their exemplary leadership and commitment to sustainability education. The Community College Green Genome Awards funds should be used to support the college's enhancement, expansion or creation of a practice or program related to clean technology education and training. Applications are accepted through Sept. 9.
ACTS Sustainability Photography Competition
Aiming to raise awareness of sustainability and associated concepts through a fun and artistic medium, the Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) invites staff and students from educational organizations to upload a photographic entry to Instagram or Facebook on the theme “River to Reef”. Finalist entries will be exhibited at the 16th International ACTS Conference, from Nov. 2-4, and the winner will be selected by a jury and awarded $1000 ($763 U.S.) from supporting partner aquaBUBBLER. Deadline to enter is Sept. 30.
Politics and Environment Education Project Webinar Series
The Politics and Environment Education Project has recruited academic and non-governmental organization experts to lead discussions on politics and the environment. The format is 15 minutes of presentation followed by 45 minutes of Q&A. The first webinar is Sept. 7.
Starting a Campus Kitchen Informational Session
The Campus Kitchens Project is a national nonprofit that empowers student leaders to create innovative and sustainable solutions to hunger by preparing and delivering food that would otherwise go to waste to those that are food insecure. How to Start a Campus Kitchen informational sessions will consist of a video-webinar presentation about the process of starting a Campus Kitchen at a college or university. The session will allow time for a questions and answers and will highlight information about the new Campus Kitchen planner and start-up grant opportunities. The first session is on Sept. 7.

Second Nature invites the Climate Leadership Network and beyond to submit proposals for sessions, workshops and presentations for the 2017 Presidential Climate Leadership Summit, happening Feb. 13-15, 2017, in Tempe, Arizona. The 2016 Nation Student Writing Contest
The Nation launched an annual Student Writing Contest to identify, support and reward progressive student journalists writing, reporting and blogging. In this year's contest, The Nation presents this premise and question: "It’s clear that the political system in the United States isn’t working for many young people. What do you think is the central issue for your generation in Election 2016?" Entries will be accepted through Sept. 19.

Project Green Challenge 2016

Global Climate Change Week
Global Climate Change Week (GCCW), Oct. 10-16, 2016, is an initiative designed to encourage academic communities to engage with each other and policy makers regarding climate change action and solutions. In addition to resources for faculty and students, the GCCW website contains information on how to organize Global Climate Change Week on campus.
Project Green Challenge 2016
Taking place Oct. 1-31, Project Green Challenge 2016 invites college students to participate in 30 days of sustainability-themed challenges. Each challenge delves into a different theme and offers four levels of engagement. Participants receive points and the top 20 daily submissions are awarded prizes. Up to 16 finalists will be flown to San Francisco to attend a four-day eco-summit in late November.
Sustainability Curriculum Consortium's Online Dialogue Series: The 2030 Development Agenda
The Sustainability Curriculum Consortium's (SCC) upcoming Online Dialogue focuses on the key components of the 2030 Development Agenda: the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Climate Agreement and the Sendai Framework on disaster risk. The two remaining webinars are Aug. 9 and Aug. 23 and will cover Paris Climate Agreement and Sendai Framework respectively. While there is no fee to participate in these online webinars, registration is required. One registration includes access to all webinars.
