U.S. House Climate Change Sign-On Letter

Any member of an HEI is invited to sign (with a .edu address) a letter being sent to Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, about the importance of a strong climate action agenda in the new Congress. 2019 Colby Summer Institute in Environmental Humanities

Call for Reviewers: 2019 AASHE Conference & Expo

Higher education sustainability stakeholders are encouraged to sign up as conference abstract reviewers for AASHE 2019. The expertise of reviewers will help develop a conference program that includes a variety of high-quality sessions to meet the diverse interests of attendees. Reviewers can expect to examine roughly 25 proposals on topics in their area of expertise. The deadline to sign up is March 8, which is also the deadline for the call for proposals and will not be extended.

Campus Social Innovation Accelerator Program

Ashoka U Commons is an online, professional development program for higher education faculty and staff working to advance social innovation education opportunities on their campuses. Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program

Offered through the University of California Santa Cruz, the program selects 20 early-undergraduate scholars to participate in a two-year conservation mentorship program centered on the summers between academic years. Recyclemania 2019

RecycleMania is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities. Over an eight-week period in the spring, colleges will report the amount of recycling and trash collected each week and are ranked in various categories based on diversion a per capita basis, the recycling rate as a percentage of total waste, and the amount of combined trash and recycling. Interdisciplinary Sustainability Teaching & Research Workshop

This workshop targets faculty who participate in interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship around social-ecological systems in the natural and social sciences, and humanities. It will explore social-ecological systems (SES) challenges, identify what faculty are doing along disciplinary SES gradients, find solutions for stronger and more transparent collaboration, and establish a network of interdisciplinary SES scholars. The workshop is hosted by Furman University from Feb. 28 through March 3. Furman University is one of 13 regional AASHE Centers for Sustainability Across the Curriculum. University Sign-On Statement: The Montreal Protocol & Reduction of HFCs

Negotiated in October, 2016 in Kigali, Rwanda, the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol is an international treaty guiding the phase down of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) worldwide. The U.S. has not yet ratified the treaty, which goes into effect in 2019. Second Nature is beginning to recruit campuses to sign onto a statement, which contains a broad message of support for ratification of the Kigali Amendment and the development of policy to phase down hydrofluorocarbons. It highlights the business advantage of developing alternative technologies.
