Keep It Cool Student Campaign
Keep It Cool is a national campaign mobilizing students to help retailers save energy. Students from campuses around the country can participate by identifying retailers that keep their front doors open. Campaign organizers will educate retailers who allow energy to escape through their open doors and will recognize shops that “Keep It Cool” with closed doors.
Sustainability Across the Curriculum UMACS Faculty Workshop
This Upper Mid-West Association for Campus Sustainability (UMACS) pre-conference workshop will give participants tools to design a new sustainability-focused course, and/or redesign an existing course, course unit or assignment. The workshop will introduce key sustainability concepts, pedagogical approaches (e.g., integrating service learning & “campus as a living laboratory” projects), and strategies for transforming departmental or campus curriculum. Participants will be paired with discipline-specific mentors to support course and curriculum development both during and after the event. The deadline to register is Sept. 15.

Turning the Page on Campus Paper Use
AASHE invites applications from institutions to join a cohort of 10 to 12 AASHE members that will receive in-depth training, guidance and tools to implement a behavior-based paper saving program on their campus. Representatives of these institutions will participate in a day-long, in-person training at the 2017 AASHE Conference and Expo. Participants will receive ongoing support over the course of the upcoming academic year to refine, implement and evaluate their paper saving campaigns. Applications are due by August 18.

SustainUS Fall 2017 World Bank Delegation Call for Applications
SustainUS invites applications to be part of a delegation of 15-20 young people that will attend the World Bank annual meetings from Oct. 9-15, 2017, in Washington, D.C. In partnership with civil society organizations, the SustainUS delegation aims to influence the World Bank Group to change its policies on climate change and equitable distribution of development finance. Applications are due Aug. 8.
Solar Energy Photo Contest
The U.S. Department of Energy’s SunShot Initiative is looking for solar energy technology photos from across the U.S. The Hit Me with Your SunShot photo contest will award solar photographers with $2,500 in cash prizes, including a $500 grand prize, and the winning photographs will be featured by the Department of Energy.

Construction Waste Recycling Management Survey
The Johns Hopkins University Sustainability and Recycling and the Design and Construction departments are conducting research on construction waste generation, tracking and diversion on campus. The survey seeks to understand how higher education institutions approach construction waste management and the stakeholders involved. Survey participants will receive the survey results.
Climate Change Theatre Action 2017
Climate Change Theatre Action, a collaboration between York University and partners, invites people to host readings or short plays about climate change in support of the 2017 United Nations COP23 meeting. Those that sign up will present an event between Oct. 1 and Nov. 18, 2017, that addresses an aspect of climate change. Event organizers will provide a collection of 50 short plays to choose from, resources, and organizational and marketing support.

AASHE Mentorship Program: Call for Applications
In response to member requests for increased knowledge exchange between campus sustainability practitioners, AASHE is inviting applications into its new Mentorship Program until Aug. 4. This program connects sustainability staff and faculty with peers to share knowledge, collaborate on projects and advance the field of higher education sustainability in general. Participants can expect a semi-structured process to facilitate ongoing collaboration between mentors and mentees, who will be matched based on desired goals, relevant experience and overall expertise. Apply by Aug. 4 to mentor a colleague and/or get support from a peer.
Call for Applications: Bicycle Friendly University
The Bicycle Friendly University program recognizes institutions of higher education for promoting and providing a more bikeable campus for students, staff and visitors. The program evaluates applicants’ efforts to promote bicycling in five primary areas: engineering, encouragement, education, enforcement and evaluation/planning. The deadline to apply is Aug. 10.
Leading for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education Online Course
This online course is for higher education professionals who are currently working or interested in issues of diversity, equity and inclusion on college campuses. Some objectives of the course are to understand the historical narrative of institutions and institutional structures that have created instances of inclusion and exclusion in colleges and universities, and being able to describe how transformational leadership is enacted for diversity, equity, and inclusion in a complex and contested environment.
Call for Proposals: Washington & Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference 2018
The Washington & Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC) is currently accepting proposals for speakers, sessions and case studies around the theme of Equity & Diversity: Planning for Equitable Actions through Climate Resilience. The event is scheduled to take place Feb. 6-8, 2018 in Portland, Oregon. The aim of WOHESC is to enliven the role of higher education in the future of Washington and Oregon and the role students play in a future world. The deadline for submission is July 17.

Academia United on Climate Change Letter

Global Climate Change Week 2017
Global Climate Change Week (GCCW), scheduled for Oct. 9-15, aims to encourage academic communities in all disciplines and countries to engage with each other, their communities and policy makers on climate change action and solutions. GCCW provides an open-ended framework for voluntary activities aimed at raising awareness, inspiring behavior change and driving political transformation in relation to climate policy.
Sustainability Across the Curriculum: Online Workshop from Moraine Valley CC
This online event, organized by Moraine Valley Community College in partnership with AASHE, is designed for higher education instructors wishing to infuse issues of sustainability (ecological stability, social equity and economic vitality) into their curriculum regardless of the discipline. Sustainability issues cross all disciplines, thus the intent of this course is to identify those areas of intersection. Solutions to real-world sustainability problems will be explored. Three graduate credits are available to participants through Aurora University. Participants must have earned a bachelor's degree in order to receive graduate credits. The deadline to register is June 25. Moraine Valley Community College is one of 13 regional AASHE Centers for Sustainability Across the Curriculum.
2017 AASHE Conference & Expo
Registration is open for the 2017 AASHE Conference & Expo, happening Oct. 15-18 in San Antonio, Texas. Themed "Stronger in Solidarity," sessions will highlight how the campus sustainability community can break down walls, build bridges and continue to make progress toward a healthy and equitable future for all. Participants will have access to effective models, policies, research, collaborations and transformative actions which advance sustainability in higher education institutions and surrounding communities. Rates increase on Aug. 1.
CCREF Young Investigator Scholarship
The Composting Council Research and Education Foundation (CCREF) Young Investigator Scholarship, for $2,500, focuses on supporting undergraduate through Ph.D. students conducting research and education in the fields of composting and compost use. The application deadline is June 30.

This joint statement from leaders of 125 cities, 183 colleges and universities, nine states, and 902 businesses and investors declares a shared intent continue to ensure the U.S. remains a global leader in reducing carbon emissions despite the Trump administration's position on climate change and its recent decision to back out of the Paris Agreement. National Recycling Coalition 2017 Awards Call for Nominations
The National Recycling Coalition is accepting nominations through 5 p.m. Eastern on June 30 for outstanding higher education programs. The Outstanding Higher Education Program award will go to a college or university with an exceptional program in recycling or connecting higher education and the industry in the areas such as degrees and career services.

Sustainability, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Workshop: 4 Days Left to Register
June 2 is the registration deadline for this workshop for faculty, administrators and staff of all disciplines who wish to interconnect and integrate sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion into their campus, curriculum and departments. The format will include opportunities for participants to bring forward topics from their own experiences to inform the discussion and gain insight from the perspectives of the presenters as well as fellow participants. The workshop is happening June 28–30 at University of Minnesota Institute on the Environment.
Supporting Sustainability on Campus With a Library Action Plan for Engagement
This online course, offered June 5-30, will use a reflective process, readings, exercises and participation in a discussion forum to support the role of the academic librarian in the sustainability movement. The instructors will offer individual feedback to participants as they craft an action plan that matches the needs of their library and institution.
Teaching Business and Human Rights Survey
This survey aims to map the current state of university instruction on the subject of business and human rights issues and related corporate responsibility topics with an explicit human rights dimension. It will do so by identifying where (country, institution, discipline) and in what fashion business and human rights has been integrated into university curricula and academic activities. This online survey is a joint effort of the Principles for Responsible Management Education Working Group on Business and Human Rights, and the Teaching Business and Human Rights Forum. The deadline to contribute is June 15.

Global Survey on Poverty and the Sustainable Development Goals
The aim of this survey is to better understand the challenges and solutions business and management educators around the world face as they seek to include the issue of poverty and inequality into business school curricula, modules, programs and courses. As such, it aims to understand progress made since a 2012 survey on responsible management, and explore the topic of responsible management education in light of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The survey is being conducted by Principles for Responsible Management Education. The deadline to contribute is June 9.

The 8th annual Climate Leadership Awards invite applications from signatory campuses of the Presidents’ Climate Leadership Commitments. These awards recognize innovative and advanced leadership in sustainability, climate mitigation and resilience. Nominees will be considered based on their commitment to climate neutrality, curriculum integration, partnerships and innovative leadership. Second Nature offers these awards in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Applications are due no later than May 26.

This three-day workshop, happening June 28–30 at the University of Minnesota Institute on the Environment, will utilize a range of workshop strategies to familiarize participants with approaches to recognize the interconnections of sustainability, diversity and equity. Participants will be exposed to diverse perspectives and dialogue with colleagues from other disciplines and campuses as they gain skills to incorporate these topics in their syllabi, lesson plans and campus projects.
