AASHE Member Discount: 10% Off Sustainability & Behavior Change Certificate
AASHE members can receive a 10 percent discount on tuition for all courses associated with the Sustainability and Behavior Change Certificate through the University of California San Diego Extension. The new certificate in Sustainability and Behavior Change provides an online setting for an advanced educational training in conservation psychology, behavior change strategies and community engagement tools. The discount expires Feb. 28.
2018 Newman Civic Fellowship Nomination Cycle
The Newman Civic Fellowship recognizes community-committed students who engage in collaborative action to create long-term social change, take action in addressing issues of inequality and political polarization, and demonstrate the motivation and potential for effective long-term civic engagement. Nominations are due by Feb. 1.
Call for Papers: Scientific Conference on Sustainable Tourism
The purpose of this conference is to examine the role of sustainability in the development and commercialization of tourism and aims to integrate sustainable development into the production of tourism services and products. Researchers are invited to submit empirical, methodological and conceptual papers that focus on topics related to the implementation of creative tourism related to sustainable development. Abstracts are due Nov. 1.

The Washington & Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC), happening Feb. 6-8, 2018 at Portland State University, is a platform for empowering and inspiring change, and facilitating action, sharing and collaboration related to sustainability within the region's higher education institutions. Through facilitated sessions and networking opportunities, participants will be empowered to advance environmental performance at Washington and Oregon state institutions of higher education and support regional policy goals and initiatives. Last Call: AASHE Governance Call for Applications

PepsiCo Recycling Zero Impact Fund
Any college or university that has a direct or indirect contract or a direct agreement to sell PepsiCo products can apply for up to $10,000 in funding for sustainability projects. Proposals will be judged based on the following criteria: environmental impact; social impact; desirability, feasibility and longevity; ingenuity; and cost effectiveness. Proposals will be accepted through Dec. 19.

National Wildlife Federation’s EcoLeaders Program is accepting 45-minute presentation proposals for the second annual EcoCareers Conference, held online Feb. 21-22, 2018. The EcoCareers Conference 2017 aims to prepare students and young professionals for wildlife and sustainability careers.
AASHE STARS and Organizational Learning Survey
AASHE STARS liaisons and other STARS users are invited to participate in a new study by Smith College on STARS and organizational learning. The aim of the study is to assess the impacts of STARS across the U.S. and Canada. Survey participants will answer questions about institutional characteristics and history of campus sustainability on their campus, learning at their institution in general, and campus sustainability and STARS on their campus. Completion of this online survey is estimated to take less than 20 minutes. Respondents can enter to win a complimentary registration pass to the 2018 AASHE Conference & Expo.

Net Impact Food Solutions Challenge
The Food Solutions Challenge by Net Impact invites students to host an event to raise awareness and generate solutions about food loss, meaning food that never makes it to the consumer. Net Impact will provide students with resources to hold the event. Teams will submit solutions to Net Impact for a chance to travel to a paid capstone event to sharpen design thinking skills and refine their solutions. The top team will win $5,000. Deadline to apply is Jan. 15.
Call for Abstracts: Symposium on Universities and the Sustainable Development Goals
Interested parties may submit a paper for the 2018 Symposium on Universities and the Sustainable Development Goals, April 11, 2018, hosted by Manchester Metropolitan University (U.K.). The event will focus on integrating, promoting and catalyzing higher education institutions in the global efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals. The deadline to submit an abstract is Sept. 30.

2017 GameDay Recycling Challenge
Registration is open for the 2017 GameDay Recycling Challenge, a friendly competition for colleges and universities to promote waste reduction at home football games. Open to college football games of all divisions and conferences, the competition aims to increase awareness of sustainability and recycling on campus, create student engagement and draw a connection between athletics and sustainability.
Sustainability Across the Curriculum Workshop at the University of South Carolina
This workshop will explore how educators can utilize their unique role to inspire, inform and train today’s students to become tomorrow’s sustainability champions. Intended to support faculty of all disciplines and levels of familiarity with sustainability, this workshop will provide hands-on activities, case studies and examples of how developing sustainability curriculum can transform challenges faced by today’s environment, local economies and society. The deadline is Oct. 15. The University of South Carolina is one of 13 regional AASHE Centers for Sustainability Across the Curriculum.
Sponsor-A-Hive Bee Partnership
Open to universities and colleges in the U.S., the Sponsor-A-Hive program, hosted by The Honeybee Conservancy, provides free bees and equipment to help schools safely set up, maintain and observe on-site bee sanctuaries. The deadline to apply to sponsor a hive is Oct. 31.
Campus Sustainability Month Movie Screening Opportunity
Held every October, Campus Sustainability Month is an international celebration of sustainability in higher education. Green Ambassador Student Volunteer Recruitment for Recycle Rocks Initiative
The Love Hope Strength Foundation is recruiting student volunteers for their Green Ambassador program, part of the Recycle Rocks Fall 2017 campaign at the BB&T Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey. Volunteers will help concert-goers divert their waste from the landfill by helping them place the material in the proper collection bins. All volunteers will be given a voucher for a future concert ticket.
2017 Campus RainWorks Challenge
The Campus RainWorks Challenge seeks to engage undergraduate and graduate students to foster a dialogue about responsible stormwater management and showcase the environmental, economic and social benefits of green infrastructure practices. Student teams will design an innovative green infrastructure project for their campus that effectively manages stormwater pollution while benefitting the campus community and the environment. Entries are due by Dec. 15.
Energy Dept Race to Zero Student Design Competition
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Race to Zero Student Design Competition challenges collegiate teams to apply building science principles to create cost-effective, market-ready designs that meet DOE's Zero Energy Ready Home program requirements. Interested teams must complete and submit the team application by Nov. 7.
APPA Sustainability Innovation Award
Nominations and applications are now being taken for APPA’s 2018 Sustainability Innovation Award in Facilities Management. This honor is designed to recognize and promote unique and innovative sustainable practices in educational facilities and campus environments that lower costs, create a sustainable environment, or otherwise benefit the educational institution, student success and environmental stewardship. Wege Prize 2018 Call for Applications
Wege Prize 2018 is looking for undergraduate and graduate students who want to work together to re-think and re-design the way economies work by creating regenerative solutions that have a widespread and lasting impact. The Encyclopedia of Sustainability in Higher Education will be produced as a tool to support universities across the world to implement sustainable development in higher education. The peer-reviewed resource, to be published by Springer as part of its World Sustainability Series, will document 500 expressions related to sustainable development.
Campus Energy Infrastructure: Challenges, Solutions & Financing
Second Nature and the New Jersey Higher Education Partnership for Sustainability (NJHEPS) invite campus stakeholders to a free workshop about identifying and financing solutions to common energy challenges. Hosted by Ramapo College of New Jersey on Sept. 22, participants of this hands-on workshop will share and learn about energy efficiency and clean energy strategies that can help their school meet budgetary, infrastructure and greenhouse gas reduction goals. Participants will also review and discuss the benefits and challenges of various finance options that are relevant for their institutions.
